RENEWAL OF NON-LUCRATIVE TEMPORARY VISA OR RESIDENCE: APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS, RENEWAL PERIODS, DEADLINES FOR RESOLUTION

RENEWAL OF TEMPORARY NON-LUCRATIVE RESIDENCE

SOME time ago we already talked about non-lucrative temporary residence. In this article we will tell you how the renewal of the non-profit temporary residence permit works.

RENEWAL PERIODS

As we know, the application for non-profit temporary residence is for a period of one year from the moment you are in Spain. It is therefore considered an initial residence.

After this first application, both the first and the second renewal will be for a period of two years.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To proceed with the renewal of the temporary non-lucrative residence permit, the same requirements must be met as those previously requested, but with one difference: the means of living for the period requested must be accredited.

Therefore, if we are renewing for the first time – and we are therefore applying for a residence permit valid for two years – we will have to prove our means of subsistence for these two years. Unlike the first application, which required proof of 400 per cent of the IPREM for the main applicant, and 100 per cent for each extra family member, here we will have to prove double the economic means, that is, 800 per cent of the IPREM.

The IPREM is an index related to incomes, and for the year 2022, the monthly IPREM has been fixed at the rate of €579.02 per month.

As you know, the accreditation of these means can be done by any means of proof, including the provision of title deeds, certified cheques or credit cards accompanied by a bank certification that accredits the amount available as credit on the card

WHEN DO I APPLY?

The renewal of the non-profit temporary residence can be done in two moments. At first, during the 60 calendar days before the date on which the authorisation expires. It is also possible to apply for the renewal of the temporary non-gainful residence within 90 days from the date on which the authorisation expired. It is not advisable to follow the latter option, because a sanctioning procedure may be initiated against you.

The renewal can be done by the applicant himself, but it can also be done by the legal representative.

DEADLINE FOR THE DECISION OF THE APPLICATION

I have already applied for the renewal of the temporary residence permit, but how long will it take for the authorities to decide on my application? Well, from the moment the renewal has been requested, the competent administration has three months to process and resolve the application. If, after three months have passed, no decision has been taken – either in your favour or against you – it is understood that the application has been accepted.

If this is your case, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help you.
